Riihimäki (Finland)
Riihimäki lies in the south of Finland, 66 km from Helsinki, the capital. The town forms the southernmost settlement of Häme County. It acquired village status in 1922, and became a town in 1960. With its population of 28,000 the town is of human scale. It offers diversity concerning its industrial base, the education facilities or leisure time activities. It has a vibrant cultural life, the exhibitions of the Glass Museum, the open-air concerts and other cultural events and programmes attract great crowds. Riihimäki has had a twinning with Szolnok since 1969.
